About Lorna Lorraine

Lorna Lorraine I am Lorna Lorraine, a self-taught Abstract Expressionist Artist who specialized in mixed-media Art and portraits in Pastel but is currently on a new explorative path. I am motivated by the way I inspire others with the storytelling in my work. I recognized my ability to express my plausible theories into abstract realism at the age of 50. Starting Art after publishing my first anthology, I defied age and gender-related stereotypes in my occupations and commitment to lifelong learning. Art was not a part of my plan. My vision emerged upon viewing the works of a group of talented artists and artisans at the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen, where I volunteered academic services. I eventually joined the enclave of artists in a permanent exhibit of artwork in the art cooperative known as the A-Team. I credit the group for my ephemeral growth into living an artful life.

Just like my poetic expressions, my artwork follows a similar theme of the light contrasting dark. My inspiration comes from the colors of my Jamaican heritage, nature, people, and the world. After an introduction to Pastel, I developed a fascination with that medium. Although I have a few watercolors, oils, acrylics, charcoals, and pencil works, most of my earlier works are in Pastel or blends of Pastel and acrylic. My first passion was portraits in Pastel on matboard, and acrylic inks and paint on wood panel or canvas. After five years, I developed a fascination with resin crafts. I focused on reproducing my poetry and artwork on wood, rocks, fabric, and emu or ostrich eggs. More recent artworks are in my children's storybook illustrations, greeting cards, postcards, coasters, posters, tiles, mugs, and forms of wearable artistry.

In 2012, I concentrated my efforts on collaborating with like-minded artists in building cultural bridges within the community through Art. Expanding our creative proficiencies resulted in the first annual event of Artburst-in-Autumn. My aim to create a viable art-based foundation resulted in transient multi-genre visual and performing artists, and the desire to establish meaningful community relationships. In 2017, Artburst-in-Autumn registered as a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit public charity in our resolve to partner with other nonprofits and strengthening the connection between the business and educational communities in and around the City of Trenton, NJ.

My current rebirth includes an introspective approach represented in a simultaneous output of fluid and symbolic Art. Historically, my Art has featured in the following publications:

Lambertville Beacon 2002
Bucks County Herald 2004
Trenton Times 2004
Princeton Packet 2006

In addition, I have participated in several invitational, non-juried shows where I sold artwork
